There is a growing interest in Grid Technology and its application over
the past few years. It is cited as the next wave of killer application
on the Internet as the amount of bandwidth consumed can be extremely
high. The term "Grid" covers wide range of research and development
topics from Computational Grid to E-Science. Recently, the Singapore
government has launched the BioMed Grid(BMG) initiative. Dr. Gunaretnam
Rajagopal, the BMG chairman, give us an insight to BMG vision. In
Japan, 2001 has been a big year for Japanese Grid projects as many
Grid-related projects have received funding from the government and the
industries. Professor Shinji Shimojo talk shall provide a summary of
on-going Japanese Grid projects and as specifically the BioGrid project
carried out at Osaka University.
An on going GRID project between staff members of Cybermedia Center,
Osaka University and School of Computer Engineering, Nanyang
Technological University is the "MEG Data Visualisation". Ms. Yuko
Mizuno-Matsumoto and Susumu Date will provide a Medical Doctor
perspective and an engineering prospective respectively of the project
in their joint presentation entitled," Telemedicine Work Bench for
Evaluation of Brain Function on GRID".
